There have been sensational headlines such as “Thousands beaten, raped in Ireland’s Catholic run schools”

Even one case is one case too many and tragic so I do NOT want to minimize the suffering. Also, as with the US, the Church does bear much responsibility for mishandling these cases. But headlines like the above lead to the conclusion that thousands were raped in Ireland’s Catholic schools.

On *The World Over *with Raymond Arroyo he just pointed out that less than 12% of the cases involve alleged rape and less than 12% involved clergy. On top of that 82% of these cases occurred before 1970.

As noted, even one case is too many and the Church should be held accountable. There should be justice for victims. However, people seeking to sensationalize such tragedy to further their own issues against the Catholic church or just to sell papers or increasing viewership should be ashamed.

I live in Ireland now and have followed the events closely. One simply must understand that there is a vicious Kulturkamph going on in Ireland. Every bit as vicious as that in the U.S. Coverage has been utterly sensational and partial.

The Report involved abuse by lay people. Who would know? The report involved abuse in non church institutions. Who would know? The report does NOT indicate mass rape. Who would know. Neglect and physical abuse ( reprehensible but then common worldwide) is lumped in with sexual abuse. Who would know?

Please be aware that there has been NO comparison made with industrial schools in EG Sweden or germany in the same era precisely because to do so would indicate widespread secularist failure to control abuse. No reference to the poverty of the nation at the time etc. Please be aware that most comment is politically motivated and part of a vicious culture war the prime intent being wholesale atheist/secular takeover of the catholic school system…that is what is at stake.

None of the above should be read as in any way suggesting lack of culpability. It is to give balance.
