There have been sensational headlines such as “Thousands beaten, raped in Ireland’s Catholic run schools”
Even one case is one case too many and tragic so I do NOT want to minimize the suffering. Also, as with the US, the Church does bear much responsibility for mishandling these cases. But headlines like the above lead to the conclusion that thousands were raped in Ireland’s Catholic schools.
On *The World Over *with Raymond Arroyo he just pointed out that less than 12% of the cases involve alleged rape and less than 12% involved clergy. On top of that 82% of these cases occurred before 1970.
As noted, even one case is too many and the Church should be held accountable. There should be justice for victims. However, people seeking to sensationalize such tragedy to further their own issues against the Catholic church or just to sell papers or increasing viewership should be ashamed.
