I’m writing in hopes someone can enlighten me. I attend morning prayers, rosary and mass on a daily basis. Morning prayers is a very small group, consisting of our Irish priest, a filipino mom with her 6 children ranging in ages 6 to 18 and myself. Fr. never calls on me to do any reading and when I asked “why” his answer was the children come at an early hour and it is good to let them read. I agreed and then apologized for being selfish and thinking of myself. I said yes, this is good for their self esteem and education. A couple of the children are asleep but wake up when called upon. I hope I am not being rude here because it is not my intention at all. The Irish priest shows favortism toward filipino and spanish people. I am now leaving the group because of this. He likes the filipino people very much and I feel like an outcast.

Also, I bought the 4-volume set of “Liturgy of the Hours” because I enjoy it so much and will now say my prayers at home.

A friend told me I should get a one year subscription to the Magnificat because it contains all the prayers including the morning and evening prayers. Is this true?

My friend wants me to read all the messages of John Leary and says everything he says is true.

Fr. tells me I should pray constantly and with a humble heart. I agree and I do just that. He asked me to join the active Legion Of Mary and I declined and said I have been an auxiliary member since 1988. He did not talk to me for a while after that so I asked him if he were angry with me. He said no I’m not angry, just disappointed. I just can win no matter what I do.

I am in several ministries at church and am so confused, hurt and angry now. I hope someone can shed some light on all of this for me.
Thank you.

I am sorry you are having this difficulty. If it is making you uncomfortable, then do not go.

As for the Magnificat, yes, that is a wonderful publication. However, the prayers in it are based on, but not drawn from the Liturgy of the Hours. If you want to pray the Litugy of the Hours you will need either the one-volume “Christian Prayer” or “Shorter Christian Prayer” (aka Traveling Breviary) or the four-volume set you said you purchased.

The Morning, Evening and Nught Prayer in the Magnificat are beautiful and can most certainly help one to pray and grow in the faith as well as the LOTH. However, they are different.

Thank you so much for this information. It is very helpful and I will get a one-year subscription to the Magnificat.

I am very uncomfortable with the Irish priest so I will do my morning prayers at home from now on as well as rosary. I will not go to daily mass at my regular church. I will go to another church because our Irish priest officiates at the daily mass on a regular basis.

I am hurt and it’s sad for a priest or anyone to make a person feel this way, especially a priest. My eternal salvation is at risk here so I will quietly pray at home.

Thank you and God bless!

Well you’ve had (name removed by moderator)ut so I won’t bother you with my opinions, but If I may ask, why is it such a big deal that he’s Irish? It may be crossed wires but every time you mention him its ‘‘Irish priest’’. Apologies if this is just crossed wires.

God bless

Peter
