Appearing before the Irish Foreign Affairs Committee Eamon Gilmore, The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs,has stated that the Irish government would welcome a State Visit from Pope Benedict XVI,reversing recent public statements that they had no interest in such a visit.
RTE report:
‘The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs has said he is in no doubt that should Pope Benedict XVI wish to make a State visit to Ireland that it would be responded to positively by the Government.’
