GET “DANNY BOY” BY ERIC CLAPTON!!!

Sorry, unexpected adrenaline hit there. :o

Anyway, go find a copy of his recording. You have NOT heard “Danny Boy” until you hear the version he does on classical guitar. It’s BEAUTIFUL. 👍

Is this it? If so, it IS beautiful. Thanks for calling it to our attention. I’m enjoying all the leads this thread has offered!

Try the Dubliners, Pogues, Clancy Brothers, (I love) The Corrs, Mick Flannery (folky singer/songwriter), Dropkick Murphy’s (some of it is punk music, same with Flogging Molly).

Slainte agus tainte!

That’s very good and very well done…and instrumental!..but not lively like I was looking for in posts 1 and 36. :whacky:

I am a big fan of Carlos Nunez - he was just starting his career way back when when he was touring with The Chieftains along with this cocky young step dancer by the name of Flatly. I will remember that concert in New Orleans until the day I die.

Back a few years ago, I was able to videotape the show on PBS about the song “Danny Boy”. It is fascinating and beautiful, and yes, Eric Clapton did an awesome work on it. The history behind the song is so interesting. Has anyone ever heard the Celtic women’s group called “Cherish the Ladies”? They are very talented. It’s less than two months to St. Patty’s day. Our family has held a party almost every year for the past 24 years. The only year we missed was when I had given birth to our 5th child a week before. We have a friend who plays piano and we all gather around and sing the old Irish tunes. I’m looking forward to it!

Cherish the ladies is a great group, have you seen them live? I first saw them perform about 10 yrs ago in morristown n.j. the leader of the group ,Joannie Madden is very talented as a matter of fact they all are . over the years I have seen the band change a bit [different people ] but they still do a good job . usually at the end of the show they all step dance a little . now if you have seen joanie you are impressed how well a woman her size is so lite on her feet. I hope they keep up the good work.

Yes, I have seen Cherish the Ladies live! Excellent show!! Joannie is so very talented and I love her dry Irish wit. Here in Des Moines, Iowa we have a Celtic Music Assoc. that brings in Irish bands during the year. I saw Cherish the Ladies about 3 years ago. My husband saw the Glengharry Boys last summer. He liked the music so much that he asked for one of their CD’s for Christmas. It is very good!

I first encountered Carlos Nunez on a tape of a bagpipe festival, solo on the Galician pipes. Never heard pipes so subtle and expressive. My dog loved it, beat time with her tail. Then I heard his band on a collection and, lastly, with the Chieftains. His playing, all instruments (pipes, recorder & whistle), is so unique.

So has anyone heard the new Gaelic Storm album? I just saw on iTunes they had one come out in 2008. I like the instrumentals!!!

You’re welcome! Spreading the Irish music fever is all part of my wicked plan for world domination. 🙂 But remember , God gave us whiskey to stop us from ruling the world!!!
I think I remember seeing a brief scene about that on an episode of “Family Guy.” 😃

I love Great Big Sea. They’re from Newfoundland so there’s a lot of Irish-Canadian folk music on their albums. 👍

ANY disc by the Chieftains is worth its weight in gold. The older ones will have more reels and jig sets. The newer ones tend to be more “artsy” and diverse.
One of the best albums in the history of music is The Chieftains with Van Morrison, Irish Heartbeat.

Wow!
