Irritation after receiving the Eucharist

This may sound really crazy, but has anyone experienced this after Mass?

Many times after receiving the Eucharist I experience irritation just as soon as I get out of the Church doors. I am fine, aware of God’s presence, when I enter, but just as soon as I receive and get out the door I feel so irritated, lack of patience, especially with drivers, etc… I have to ask myself what is going on. There is no reason for it.

Anyone else experience this?

The reason could be that Satan hates you and wants to take away your sense of peace. I can only imagine how he is working overtime to tempt souls that have just been refreshed! This must anger him a great deal. Ask Jesus to help you. God bless.

I know is sure puzzles me as to how I could have just received Jesus and go out the door and feel like this.

This has happened before you know. In fact after the First Eucharist St. Peter denied Jesus thrice. The Eucharist WILL strengthen you but know that the closer you come to God the more desperate and vicious the enemy will become. How quickly do we fly to the parking lot after Mass? Do we stay and thank God for a while, begging for the receptionof His Son’s Body and Blood be effecatious to us or do we bolt from that Upper Room as did Judas? Stay a bit after Mass. Not only will your Communion “work better” the parking lot should clear out too.

I would like to stay, but I am cutting it close with going to Mass each morning and getting to work on time. Besides, they don’t leave the Church open very long after Mass.

I think you nailed it! Be a good idea to say the prayer to Saint Michael after mass as we used toi do and still do in some churches.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

I would examine whether you have a conflict in yiour mind with the Church’s beliefs about the Eucharist. Something about it is irritating you, so maybe talk to a priest or counselor about it.

There is no conflict in my mind about the Eucharist. It it more like an attack that comes out of nowhere.

The world outside of Mass can be a real buzzkill. Many times I have left Mass feeling good, with the recessional hymn in my head when suddenly I hear someone down the block scream an obscenity or some crass top-40 tune bring me down.

I can only do my best to drown these things out with prayer.
