I attended a marriage of a family friend today and I was confused regarding the ceremony. The bride is a “practicing” Catholic, the Groom is not. The ceremony was in a Presbyterian Church because the bride thought it was "pretty, despite there being three Catholic Churches in her town, one of which is her parish. The ceremony was presided over by a Catholic Priest. There was not a Mass, but there was a “Liturgy of the Word.”
I think the Mass was valid, but how was the Priest able to get dispensation/permission to have such a ceremony?
