This issue was raised in another thread. If you are subsequently baptised into another Christian community, does that constitute a “positive act” abrogating yourself from the requirements of canon law?

You can only be baptized once. If you take the step to get baptized in another faith I believe you are excommunicating yourself.

Thank you, Seatuck. That settles it, at least for me.

I believe previously one could stand up in front of witnesses and declare it or do something like a public baptism with witnesses .

What if someone is still being taught their faith (say… an 11-12 year old) and she goes to Bible Camp with a friend.
Say they convince her that she is not truly Christian and peer pressure her into being baptized. Has that child excommunicated herself?

She is innocent but it still would be a good idea for her to talk to a sympathetic priest or religious director. A commitment made by a child is very important to a child and she would need assurance that all is well with her soul.

I was baptised when I was ten. It was an important event in my life and one that has never been forgotten. It is important to not minimize what this may have meant to her.
