Is a certain type of wine required?

I went to a wedding for my science teacher and they had white wine for Holy Communion. Is that allowed?:confused:

Yes. From Canon Law:

Can. 924 §1. The most holy eucharistic sacrifice must be offered with bread and with wine in which a little water must be mixed.

§2. The bread must be only wheat and recently made so that there is no danger of spoiling.

§3. The wine must be natural from the fruit of the vine and not spoiled.

The rubrics require a 100% grape wine – no mention of type of grape is made.

(But we Altar Boys of the 1950’s used to like the red wine better… :o )

Until one of the Sacristan nuns got wise to the fact that the priests couldn’t possibly have said that many Masses to consume that much wine; unbeknownst to us, she substituted some “Murphy’s Oil Soap” into the wine bottle which we used to fill the cruets. YACK!!

BUT, someone failed to tell Father Ryan about her trick on us altar boys, and there was an “interesting incident” at one weekday Mass… :bigyikes: )

Yes, growing up attending a Catholic grade and High School was definitely an experience…
