Do you have a link to that article or its abstract please. I can only find a piece dated 2000 by Dr Underhill.

Yes, that may very well have to do with the nature of the “evidence.” Imay have, as well, to do with the difference in the nature of awareness today as distinct from that of the time in which the common paradigms of religion were formed. Institutions, especially faith based ones, cannot keep up with the actual progress of the journeys of their members,

No. God is real.
There are some confusions in your reasoning.
Yes, there were gods who disappear like Zeus and Jupiter. YET, these were not invalid. They were ways of thinking God, the real God. As we think of atoms like these:

yet the atoms are nothing like the way they are depicted here. Yest, this picture gives us an idea of how electrons and protons and neutrons are disposed. But reality is much different.

So with God. Because the representention is not faithful (and never can be) to the Real God it does not mean that God does not exist.
