Hi,

Is a sin to listen to this music as a catholic?

I have been listening to this youtube Relaxing music since lockdown to but my wife keeps saying that this type of music is not good to a catholic.

I need feedback.

its not a sin but if your wife is bothered by it, don’t listen to it. remember what St. Paul says? all things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. all things are allowed, but not all things build up. On such neutral issues we defer to the one offended, so as to not cause discord.

maybe listen to something like the Jesus Prayer in the background:

I don’t know where your wife got that silly idea, but there is absolutely nothing that a good Catholic can’t listen to in good conscience in the link you provided. Enjoy it as you please.

Then, again, as Voltaire said, the problem with common sense is that it is not all that common.

Some of these instrumental music are sequenced from human voices . They contain sublimal messages.

Not a sin but if it numbs you or empty your mind then don’t listen that. It is not good.

This is one of the most beautiful and poignant things I ever heard:

Young Armenian singing ‘Lord have mercy’ in the building of the former Holy Cross Cathedral on Akdamar Island, on Turkish Lake Van. It is a church of the Armenian Apostolic Church built in the tenth century, which was destroyed by the Turks during the Armenian Genocide of 1915, killing all the monks they found there.

Tremendous hang time for music. I wonder what it was like trying to listen to a homily though. If each spoken word had that much reverb, it might not be intelligible.

Thanks for the link!

@otjm Probably wouldn’t be the same if there were benches, windows and other inside. But acoustics is perfect for singing.

Perhaps not as reflective of sound as the benches would interrupt some. Not sure if this was a church that used benches. But gorgeous acoustics, and a beautiful voice.
