Is a television show a sin?

I love the movie the Witcher on Netflix. I think it has a great plot, action scene, and storyline. Unfortunately, there are several nude scenes in the show. Whenever a naked scene comes on the screen I always look away or fast forward through it until that scene is finished. I don’t lust after the characters but strictly watch it because I like the show. Do you think this would be a sin to watch with the nudity even if I don’t look/watch those parts?

I wouldnt watch it… impurity and immodesty is an occasion of sin. Some people have to see immodesty due to necessity (doctors etc) that is different. Tv is not a necessity 🙂

Also at some point you might not look away in time / still see something and it could become an occasion of sin.

Delve into “the near occasion of sin” and think of better ways to use the unknown amount of time you have on left on this planet.

Thanks for the information. I actually found a service that filters out all the nudity and even blasphemy. Do you think this would be a venial sin then? I watched a couple episodes last night but stopped watching just in case it would be a mortal. Obviously I can confess it next time, but want to know your thoughts on mortal/venial

If it’s filtered then there is no occassion and you don’t have a bad intention so it wouldn’t in that scenario.
 
Oh I was more referring to when I watched it with the nude scenes, even though I looked away
 
I don’t think it was mortal. Mortal sin would be watching the full nude scene and allowing yourself to get all excited. As for if it was venial though I would check with your priest in confession.
 
Putting oneself into an occasion of sin especially with purity could be a mortal sin, but I think it would be hard to decide this on a forum… if you stopped watching when you thought it could be a mortal sin, that is a good thing. Maybe it would help more to ask a priest, and look at the requirements for mortal sin 🙂

You are responsible to have custody of your eyes. If the show you are watching is something you morally disagree with, why watch it at all?
 
After looking deeper into the Witcher series,
it comes across strongly that nudity is not the only thing
for a Christian to be concerned over…

I agree that the occasions of sin is good discretion. As I person that has not deliberately views nudity since Feb 2014, I can say that the "slow going drop of lustful provoking stimulus " kept inchijnng deeper, until I fell into a big black ugly place…

If u want to see some testimonies of others that had been impacted negatively by sexual images…ted Bundy’s last interview on YouTube, talks that it was the slow exposure to sexual images…that created a monster out of him
 
I saw profanity, racial slur, and violence filters. But I don’t see nudity and sex filter.

I completely agree with the occasion of sin, that’s why when I thought about it I was like no I don’t think I should watch it. I don’t want to be exposed to it. I’ve done really well since my conversion to Catholicism from prodestant about not watching any porn deliberately. It will have been a year in April which is pretty good since it was almost a daily thing before hand.

I know that a mortal sin is three parts: must be a grave mater, must be deliberate, and the intent. I did watch the show but it was not for the nudity I actually worked very hard to not see the nudity. I believe that at worst it would be a venial sin of inappropriate viewing, but not a mortal since since someone else cursing is not a sin for me
 
Congrats on no porn. I’m porn free since Feb 2014. That is a huge huge deal today. Imho…The porn induced erectile dysfunction in youth and socio cultural impact on perverting relationships is terrible. I paid bad bad hellish torments. And still have bouts of depression , even 5 years later of porn freedom. I wasn’t daily user viewer, but damage to my brain was bad.

I’m pro addiction recovery. I think the issues of sexual purity are important. The use of the sacraments and returning to full Pursuits of sanctifying grace through sinning less… being contrite …in my pursuit of the sacraments of confession, reconciliation, eucharistic help. Drilling my sins carefully and paying close attention to the often difficult rules…And being accountable without playing games with the rules or sitting at Double standard… Maybe very rigorous and hard sounding… But I’ve tried the easy way… I’ve tried the way playing games with the rules of the 10 Commandments… However it is been I who put myself in hell so to speak… It is me who thought that I sold myself the rope with which to climb up on… That I ended up hanging myself on…? Makes sense?.. In other words all the little games that I would try to play… About making little rooms for my sins in my conference… Or listen to a humanistic secular approach that I owe myself a little break here and there? Sound familiar? And really all it did was give room to keep the devil.

So I’ve got to be very careful now I don’t have any more time to waste and I don’t like it… I admit I get a little bit down as I work hard to not be into gluttony or into lust and not greed it’s very very difficult very if one is truly contrite about the Pursuits…

I am really glad I found this forum because I’m interested to hear other people using their Catholic faith and pursuing all the aspects of the medians as well as what it means to give back and how to have boundaries and respect within the limits they have to be stewards over the charity they can do as well as The Obedience they can do

I watched the whole season and think its a great show.
Its not a sin to watch it. If anything comes up you don’t want to see just fast forward.
