A woman has a baby out-of-wedlock and keeps the child, four years later, married with children by her husband, the two of them decide through much counseling to put the four-year-old up for adoption. The adoption fails and the child is shuffled through various foster families. Fifty years later, the child wants to meet the original family, now seven, only two of which he remembers. He begins by visiting the third adult child in the family and sends out messages to the other children telling them that he wants to meet them. This is all before open adoption and open records. The married couple thought this would be kept secret. Now, it’s a shock to the entire family who knew nothing about this. Wouldn’t abortion have pre-empted all this fall-out and kept the family intact? Your thoughts.

Nearly seventy years ago, another child, who was three at the time, was placed into foster care after her father died and the state decided that her mother could not care for her and her siblings. The children were fostered out to various families throughout the state and had little contact growing up. The little girl went through several foster families before being placed at age six with a family who fostered her for the rest of her childhood. She faced many difficulties that haunted her for the remainder of her life as a result of not being able to grow up with her birth family and not finding a family who could adopt her. Would she have been better off if she had been aborted? If she had been aborted, I wouldn’t be here to tell you this story as the child was my mother.
