Hello all,
I watched a youtube video from Fr. Barron concerning Obama’s HHS mandate, and it got me thinking about an issue that I always struggled with as a Christian.

I watched a youtube video from Fr. Barron concerning Obama’s HHS mandate, and it got me thinking about an issue that I always struggled with as a Christian.
I’m generally against abortion, but the three following circumstances always hung me up on the issue…
- Cases of rape - if a woman was raped, why should she be forced to deliver the child too? And the difficulties with associated? I suppose you could ask how I’d feel if I were the baby being considered for abortion…but in cases of rape, a part of me says I would rather be killed if I was conceived against her will. It was never right for me to be conceived against her will in the first place.
- Cases of incest - if a daughter was impregnated by her father, should the physical and psychological trauma be compounded with the difficulty of delivering a child? I think I saw a Law & Order SVU episode with a similar scenario, when the show’s conclusion sided with the mother aborting the baby in the end.
- Cases when mother’s life would be in jeopardy - assuming the mother’s chance of survival after delivery is low…why should the delivery of the child come at the expense of the death of the mother? The movie Breaking Dawn actually tried to address this, but the girl actually could rationalize on the fact she could survive by being turned into a vampire…kind of a cop-out…
