I am 40 years old and we have 11 kids(ages 18 years to 9 mos.). I am a devout homeschooling Catholic and my husband less so.I wouldn’t mind having more kids but the last preg. I developed a rare liver condition(pregnancy related) called Cholestasis, causing stillbirth from 37 weeks(so I was induced at 37 weeks and the baby’s ok) and in some cases even sooner, or severe prematurity at times as well, and I was informed there’s a 60-90% chance it WILL recur now with any future pregnancies(and even worse with each following one; and even now my liver still flares up; it hasn’t resolved yet, even after the birth, like it should have) which terrifies me, and so the only solution I can see to prevent it(as I can’t bear to live thru that fear and worry and stress again about possibly losing my baby) is abstinence,(we don’t use birth control) but my husband isn’t fond of this idea and says to use condoms but I won’t. I am worried this will cause a rift in our marriage, but I won’t commit what we both know is a sin(contraception) but I emotionally can’t go thru that terror again, either, even though I know I shouldn’t let fear stop me from having more kids.
Any suggestions? (NFP doesn’t work so well for me; my cycles are irregular and some of the kids were conceived this way!)
