So I was given an act of penance, but then I put it off for a while and sinned before I could complete it. I already did the act of penance. But is the act of penance invalid?

Additionally, recently I was making a confession, but then forgot some additional sins (I ask myself then was I truly sorry???) . I tried my best to remember them by thinking in my head but I believe the priest assumed my confession was over and starting speaking to me about what to do. I felt kinda awkward at that point so i finished the confession and walked out. I could have gone back in, but I felt kinda awkward at that point. Was that confession valid? And if it were invalid, does that make the penance given invalid?

Cheers.

Need to ask a priest in your next confession.

Actually, any sincere act of contrition is probably all right with the good Lord. Then again, I’ll have to ask him when I walk through that final exit. I really don’t have the answer as to what is acceptable to Him. Then again, I’m not sure anyone does.

Sins you actually forget are counted.

Your penance can be done at various times.

You need to speak to an experienced confessor about your scrupulosity.

There is no such thing as a valid or invalid penance. You make a sincere confession, the priest gives you absolution and then a penance to be done. It must be done (not an option) but sinning before you complete your penance has no affect on the penance given.
