Is Allah different from God?

I’ve heard that the God we invoke in our prayers and the god of the Moslems, Allah, are different. Seeing as how we both share the Old Testament (or I’ve heard that, but I don’t know if its true) I’m a little confused as to how we are worshiping something different. If someone could provide me with some answers, I’d be very grateful.
