According to ewtn.com/expert/answers/just_war.htm, "The responsibility for determining whether [the four conditions of just war] are met belongs to “the prudential judgment of those who have responsibility for the common good.” (ie. the government)

So is any armed revolt against a government unjust? If this is so, would the current armed revolt in Libya be unjust?

No.

I think in some cases yes; in others no.

Eitherway, desparate people do desparate acts when they feel they have no hope of resolution.

Sorry, my mistake.

The question I mean to ask is, is armed revolution just in the eyes of the Catholic Church under any circumstances?

Yes, an armed revolt or revolution could be entirely just.

As an example, those few who revolted against the nazi government in Germany were totally justified. So were those who revolted against the Soviet government in the former Soviet Union.

Other revolutions can become more problematical. But essentially, if the government is treating its people unjustly, and if it refuses to allow the people any peaceful way to change that government, then an armed revolt may well be justified.

True, with emphasis on the “if all the peaceful alternatives have been exhausted”.

Yes an armed revolt is just, when the God given rights of the people are under attack.

If some told me that the United States government wanted to outlaw the Catholic Church. Lord forgive me but there will be some dead bodies at the hands of the 2nd Amendment.
