Hello everyone.

Hopefully this is not against forum rules. [I don’t believe is though] Is anyone familiar with the Fish Eaters forum? I am thinking about branching out some. Are they conservative? Liberal? A nice mix etc.

Thoughts?
Thanks.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I don’t know them but you’ve already done what I would have suggested, and that’s take the plunge and make an account. 😊

Report back how you like it, if you care to.

I am familiar with them. I don’t have an account but I have been over there. They are conservative Latin Mass types (like myself 😁) so the topics will be around that. But if you have questions on TLM or anything traditional you will find all you need over there.

I have had an account over there for quite a while, but I just have never used it. Thanks.

I am familiar. I was kicked out of their forums about a decade ago when I took issue with their rampant antisemitism. I was viciously attacked for defending Israel and the Jewish people, then banned with no explanation. Stay far, far away from these folks.

They are apparently a “traditionalist Catholic” web site run by one person - a layperson - who makes no bones about expressing her personal opinions as the Forum Moderator. There is no formal affiliation of the web site with the Church.

They have unfortunately been around a long time. In my opinion, they have done a great deal of damage to the traditional Catholic cause.

Very conservative and right leaning, theologically and politically.

A good amount there are sedevacantist, SSPX, conclavist, etc.

It’s a pretty well known “rad-trad” forum - and it’s not a very active one at that.

I’d recommend going to the Byzantine-Catholic forum instead - except they are fairly inactive as well.

CAF is by far the largest, most active, most popular Catholic Forum in the English language.

I checked it out once kind of by mistake. I think they are super trad. Don’t mean that in a good or bad way, just giving you my impression - I mean strongly traditionalist leanings. Also my sense was kind of a small group. I have never spent more than a minute or so there before leaving again - not my thing really. But you never know.

Most of the anti-semites have been banned as of now.

Don’t worry about FishEaters. They have a lot of good people, especially the moderator, whom I know through conversation is a devout and good-willed woman. I’ve been posting for a while and, honestly, I have never encountered anti-semitism.

You will learn a lot about the traditions of the Church. Plus, they are big on free speech.

It would seem so. I know of a couple of other mainstream Catholic sites one of the busier [I think] ones is Catholic Community forum. But so far none have really captured my interest. Thanks.

I don’t know her personally, but she has posted many, many anti-Israel and anti-Jewish posts as the Forum Moderator over the years. That’s enough reason to avoid.

Just like everything, there’s a mix of good and bad.
However, what I like Fish Eaters for is not its forums (CAF is much better) but for it’s 'Being Catholic" section (not the ‘for Catholics" or "for Protestants’, but specifically" Being Catholic"). That section has an incredible wealth of information about traditions, devotions, the liturgical year, sacred space, etc. Yes it is geared toward the EF, but to my mind, that’s helpful as so many people don’t know anything about the EF, or their memories are from so long ago, or when they were so young, that they really don’t know as clearly as they think they do. I like the devotions section, the litanies etc. Obviously some of the hot-button topics like ‘veiling’ might not be of interest to many, but seriously, how many people here know about ember days (we’re coming up on some actually, as a matter of fact), Rogation (major and minor), the liturgical seasons, etc? There is a lot of symbolism that we’ve grown away from over the ‘modern times’ and for some, recovering and relearning that can be beneficial to one’s prayer life. Not for everybody but it’s a boon for those who would otherwise not even know where to start finding out some of these treasures.

The fact that you mention anti Israel along with anti Jewish makes me wonder. What is wrong with ‘anti Israel’ posts? That is a pretty vague term. Someone can certainly take issue with the Israeli government.

Funny, while in the middle of your post I was thinking about how many places have buried treasure, should you choose to dig for it, and then you end with "treasure!?

Gosh, I am really chatty tonight. School closed early and we got a snow storm storm. Put me in a good mood. [as long as the power stays on.]

The forum in the past has contained pretty vicious antisemitic content. Not just inflated charges leveled against the Israeli government, but attacking Jews, various rabbis, and Judaism as well.

This kind of venom does enormous harm to the traditionalist Catholic cause, especially when placed prominently in the public domain.

I don’t have a problem with Jews at all, and I dont have a problem with the state of Israel.

I have little sympathy for the Palestinians since the Camp David Summit.
The 2000 Camp David Summit was a summit meeting at Camp David between United States president Bill Clinton, Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat. During that summit Barak gave in to ALL the demands of the PLO and Arafat turned him down, much to the shock of all involved including Bill Clinton. Barak warned Arafat that the deal would never be offered again, and he was right.

Go ahead and post that opinion over in Fisheaters and you can see what kind of reaction you will get. You’ll see what I mean, lol.

I haven’t been there in about a year. Got fed up with the rampant sedevacantism and disrespect for Pope Francis.

I had not been over there in a long time and just went. Whee. Their views range from more conservative than anyone I have met in real life and I know some pretty conservative Catholics to vastly disrespectful of the pope. Enough for me.

Definitely.

The fisheaters website itself is an awesome resource.

The problems lie in the forum.
