I am totally dumbfounded.

Catholic Answers is probably*** the best*** apostolate in North America. It has a great magazine, great radio show, and probably the best website full of solid, faithful, Catholic information.

And yet, when I go over to the Liturgy section, there are gobbs of posts tying every which way to justify violating he Liturgy. In the News sections, you’ll see posts putting forth every possible excuse to support pro-abortion politics, homosexual agendas, and so forth. You even see a few whacky things right here in the Apologetics section.

I feel like I am in Jerry Seinfeld’s Bizzaro World, where everything is backwards. I just don’t know what to make of it. How can this be, when this website does such a fantastic job at providing great infomation that is in fidelity with Catholic teaching?

Does anyone else feel like I do? I’m starting to freak out man.

It’s the web. Anyone can join and post, and plenty of people do so just to be provocative, or to get a platform for their points of view. Engage when you feel moved/capable, and ignore the rest.

Do you think that some folks are actually Agent Provocateurs ??

It’s irritating, if nothing else. Some people do make feeble attempts at rationalizing what is obviously sin.

I would bet that sooner or later many of us come to a point where we have to step back and take a breather. :coolinoff: It can get pretty intense sometimes.

I’m learning to discern which threads I don’t even want to bother with in the first place, and when a good thread where there has been intelligent discourse up to a point, is starting to go south, to degenerate into useless bickering.

And, I’m deleting some of my subscriptions, and planning to spend more time with my Social Groups, both the ones I started and the ones I joined started by others.

I’ll get on a forum thread if I really feel I can contribute something helpful, or learn something I have been curious about, or help a person in distress, or have fun (in Water Cooler threads). But I’m going to be more circumspect about it for the time being.

Peace to you!👍

Its beyond irritating. I am currently arguing in a thread where the Red Army is being praised and American WWII soldiers are compared to criminals.

My dad was a soldier. I don’t appreciate that stuff one bit.

Of that I have no doubt.

I have been involved in some pretty hard and heated discussions where it is obvious some opponents operate as teams. Quite a few have very few posts to their names and when you check, they only operate on threads where points of contention are of the very “progressive” kind. You need to gird your loins and wade into the ‘fight’ on behalf on the Catholic Church even if you feel a little intimidated sometimes.

🤷 If a thread is too far out for you to handle, your best action is none at all.

Refusing to post on a thread is the surest way for it to be short lived, and it is probably the best way to send a charitable message to the OP.

However, the Catholic Answers Forums exists to provide a community for Catholics and non-Catholics of all levels of interest in and/or commitment to the Catholic Church to gather on the Internet for discussion in a safe and charitable environment. We do not require that members agree with the Catholic Church in order to participate; only that they remain charitable in their postings.

The members (Catholic or otherwise) are free to discuss issues of interest to them, even though some of those issues are not entirely in line with the Church’s understanding of Catholicism.

We feel that by allowing discussion of issues of concern for Catholics and non-Catholics, we are not endorsing those issues that are contrary to Church teachings but allowing members to discuss those issues amongst themselves. Any member confused on a point of Church doctrine is welcome to submit a question to the Ask an Apologist forum or to contact Catholic Answers directly.

IF a thread violates any of the rules and guidelines found at this link then simply report it, (http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/buttons_khaki/report.gif) stating what rule it violates and we mods will happily deal with it.
