Is anyone having a hard time believing it's almost Lent?

It struck me today that we are less than a week away from the start of our Lenten journey. I can’t believe it; it seems like we were just in Advent. I am going to miss the Alleluia! 😦

Anyways, what is your favorite aspect of Lent?

Given Lent started late last year, I was surprised too. I thought we have one more week. Then again, being Eastern Catholic, Lent does begin one week later for those who follow the Julian Pascha. But our parish follows the Gregorian so we begin this Monday.

The fact that mass starts getting treated seriously. That’s what I like.

As opposed to other times of the year when Mass is not taken seriously?

I am sad for you if you think that this is true. I will give you that I have attended a couple of Masses (and only a couple in my 40+ years of being Catholic), that were not following the rubris, but even in my “very liberal” diocese, I have never seen anyone not take Mass seriously.

I love the Way of the Cross and just about everything else especially waiting in expectation for Easter. I always love the Easter Vigil. 🙂

I agree with you! 😃

One of the fruits of my experience with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, is a the use of my imagination in prayer.
During Lent, I try to spend and extra half an our everyday meditating on what Jesus’ 40 days in the desert was like for Him, and what I can learn from Him when experiencing my own ‘desert experiences’.

Almost Lent ??? Can’t be - I moved a living room chair yesterday, and discovered a hidden cache of Christmas tree needles. Surely Christmas was just a few days ago?

I can’t believe it’s almost here either!

My favourite part is meditating on the Passion and the Stations of the Cross, it’s so helpful spiritually and helps us to understand how much Jesus went through to save us, so we could be more grateful 🙂

For me Lent seems early because here in Iowa we really haven’t had much of a winter. We have had little snow and daytime temps have largely been above freezing, some days well above freezing. Its almost as if we have been stuck in the post-Thanksgiving, pre-Advent period.

I checked under my bed and found whole bunches of lent there so I got the vacuum cleaner and swept it up!🤷

I love Holy Week.Beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. What a beautiful service! The Blessed Sacrement is then exposed until midnight.Congregants take turn keeping vigil with Our Lord. Love it!:highprayer:

It felt like Lent took forever to get here last year and I couldn’t wait for it.

My favorite part is getting Ashes on Ash Wednesday, the Stations of the Cross, and the fasting and abstinence regulations. That sounds weird, but I really like the “outward signs” that distinguish Catholics from everyone else.

I only wish some liberals in the church would stop trying to eliminate the signs that distinguish Catholics!

Oh, and I want to add: weekly fish fry!

I forgot to add. One of my favorite aspects of Lent is that it helps me look on my life in perspective through fasting, abstinence, giving something up, etc. I miss the little things that we give up during Lent, but we then start them up again on Easter, which is always fun to welcome them back (the Alleluia for example). The church always seems to have a “penitential” feel to it when I go to it during Lent. I don’t know why, but that’s just me. I also like the bareness of the sanctuary so that we focus on the more important things.
