…like a painter, photographer, writer, etc?

If so, does your Catholic spirituality play a role in the art you create?
 
I like paintings of you both. Thanks for sharing! My favorite and the nature scenes and landscapes. I love wild flowers.
 
Hi Iona. I have no pictures to share… but I love to do bead work. I make Rosary’s. Thanks to both of the posters who provided links of their work. What wonderful gifts, from Our Loving Father! 🙂
 
My bachelors degree is in art but sadly I haven’t been anything artistic for many years…except decorating the church. My creative endevors right now are in writing and speaking engagements. But I do want to get back to painting when I have the time…maybe in 20 years.
 
I don’t have any examples on hand, but I spend a great deal of time writing, and frequently about my faith. I dabble in painting and photography as well, but have never tried to seriously get into them. I don’t have a lot of talent for them, is all, and I lose interest easily because of it.

It’s good to see other people using their talents, though!

I majored in English Literature in undergraduate, but English is not my first language. Here are some of my recent writings:

I wrote a lot in Chinese and have published over 50000 words in different Chinese journals, newspapers, and magazines. Most of my writings have the theme of faith. Some of them are subtle, lot of them are very direct.

Currently I am seeking a Chinese publisher to publish my book.
It is not easy. I can use some of your prayers.
 
Yes, ever since I was a little girl I would think up stories and write them and draw illustrations for them.

I probably should have pursued this more because many of my teachers really like my work in writing, but I didn’t have faith in it.

I’m not good at drawing, but I enjoy drawing, painting, etc. I have a brother who is very talented at drawing but he doesn’t care for it. It’s so unfair 😃 I wish I had that talent.

Many of my stories have taken on a more spiritual tone. I decided to share some of my “ideas” once with my brother that were on the sci-fi side and he really liked them and told me to write them down.
 
I’m an artist, an animator actually. 🙂 I work in a secular industry but always make sure that the projects I take on are not contrary to our Catholic Faith. While I don’t really do any religious art at the moment, I am hoping to continue developing my skills so that someday I can. Who knows what God will inspire me with! 😃

Yes, I’m a bit artistic as well, here are two of my photos.

One has been Photoshopped to add a watercolor effect and is called “Good Friday”:

Thanks for all the responses! You’re all so inspiring 😃 I especially liked the landscape paintings from Jmcrae and JimR.

I’m a graphic designer, so aside from using those skills to help out a little with church activities, the only real way I get to show my faith through my work is by working diligently and being a good employee.

I really loved drawing and painting in high school. I haven’t picked up a paintbrush since then, but after doing a few pen and ink drawings recently I think I’m ready to try again.

Lately I’ve been feeling really inspired by people who create sacred art, but I think I need to work on my art skills (not to mention my prayer life) for a while before I pursue religious subject matter 😉
 
When my children were very young I got into the hobby of making mosaic trays. As time passed I began to cut the tiles and make designs like butterflies, etc.

Then I made my first mosaic of our Blessed Mother holding the infant Jesus out of mosaics. Everyone liked it a lot; I had spent a lot of time cutting the tiles and making the design. I had it on the wall of my dining room for many years, and when my oldest son announced his engagement, I decided to give it to him and his future wife for an engagement gift. I titled the picture “Mother of Our Saviour”.

I have since made a picture of a dove out of mother-of-pearl white irridescent colored mosaics, in front of a full moon made of amber colored mirror tiles and beige irridescent tiles. The background was dark blue. It took a very long time to make and I was going to hang it in my living room, but then my youngest son’s marriage was coming up. So, I titled it “Come Holy Spirit” and gave it to them for a wedding present.

Now I am into making lit candle mosaics on 6" x 8" tiles that I purchase from Lowe’s, and am giving them to my children for their birthdays. The background is brown and grey stained glass, and the candle is pure white with an orange and yellow flame. There are sparkles of gold amber glass all around the flame.

I’ll have to have my daughter teach me how to upload pictures so I can show some of these.

In my next picture I would like to depict an angel.

I used to draw. Incessantly. From the time I could hold a pencil, I doodled. Sometimes pictures, random doodling. I sort of had it in the back of my mind to do something artistic – but I never thought I was good enough to pursue it; but I didn’t care so much, I just loved to draw, and design things on the computer (I designed a lot of graphics and things for my unit in the Army, and was quite pleased, if I do say so, given my total lack of training).

After 12 years of school and 20 in the Army, I tried doing graphic design at college; unfortunately, I also suffer from severe depression, and I had to go on a drug that completely and utterly removes all my creative energy. I haven’t picked up a pencil or pen since I started the drug, haven’t written a story, haven’t created a graphic.

I’m sad that the one thing I loved to do for four decades is now lost to me. But I guess that’s just my cross to bear.
 
Thanks for the encouragement to show the pictures! I will have to ask my daughter to show me how to do that…or try and figure it out for myself! (highly unlikely, but I may try.)
