I think illeagal things are removed. I went to watch a show the other day and it had been removed and replace with a Prieview because it was no longer free to the public to watch it.

There are a lot of illegal things on YouTube.

Most commercial items posted on YouTube are posted from individuals, not people who have a license to post them. Type in a soccer or football player, there are thousands of illegal videos from commercial broadcasts.

That being said some television shows I believe are legally put up, especially ones that might have been cancelled or are trying to build up an audience. I would check with the person that posted the video. YouTube can be fun thought!

I’ve wondered not just about the TV shows (obviously copyright infringement but so far I haven’t heard of the networks complaining) but the homemade vidoes that get altered and parodied – so beware folks, if you post anything to youtube it apparently becomes fair game.

Yes, they are all illegal, actually. It even has fansubs (unlicensed subtitled anime)

I love Youtube. Visit it everyday and get lost in all the old variety shows from the 70s, clips from old movies, interviews with stars from shows such as Mike Douglas, etc. Great site.

Some shows don’t mind and allow the copyright to be infringed, but some do. I watched a good clip of a Red Sox game and it was gone and hour later, but others like the Daily Show or the Colbert Report don’t mind.

It’s my understanding that if any copyrighted material or any other illegal material gets posted and than reported to the webmaster it will be taken off immed.

Just got this in my e-mail:

Morris: YouTube, MySpace Abuse Copyright
By ALEX VEIGA

LOS ANGELES – Universal Music Group, the world’s largest record company, contends the wildly popular Web sites YouTube and MySpace are violating copyright laws by allowing users to post music videos and other content involving Universal artists.
“We believe these new businesses are copyright infringers and owe us tens of millions of dollars,” Universal Music CEO Doug Morris told investors Wednesday at a conference in Pasadena. “How we deal with these companies will be revealed shortly.”
Universal’s talks with YouTube Inc. have deteriorated and the recording giant is set to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against the video-sharing company if no agreement is reached by the end of the month, according to a person familiar with the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the confidential nature of the negotiations.

Youtube has become my favorite site:D I like it because I can see videos from 90s grung bands that don’t get played on tv now. . MTV doesn’t show videos anymore. It seems like the place to look at videos is on youtube if you’re a music fan.

With advent high deffinition TVs and good video cameras available, I believe that companies are going to have a difficult time preventing people from posting stuff on the net.

And you can say that youtube is immoral because it causes companies to lose money, but doesn’t tivo do that also?

I love YouTube as well. There are so many videos on there that I would never be able to see from favorite music artists that would not be available anywhere else.
I hope that something can be worked out. Otherwise…what a sad loss it would be not to be able so see some of those videos and performances anymore.

I find it to be illegal as well. There are other media sites like Veoh, and MediaCafe, Dailymotion to name a few besides Youtube,. Ever since the Youtube launch a few years ago after the crash of Imesh and Limewire Peer 2 Peer Programs was removed by the FBI, I am STILL shocked in “God’s name” to believe Youtube is still on the Internet for over 10yrs and still growing popularity. I don’t think Google (the owners) have removed all of the illegal stuff like anime, TV episodes, movies, etc… Another site I trust a lot is Itunes. Itunes is a LEGAL site that was agreed by USA FBI state law. Because you can PURCHASE your media through their online store with a Itunes Gift Card or your paypal account… So yeah. Only thing I also not like is all the demon comments about the videos that people work so hard in their projects, and dislike what they say, do, and act in the video. I am religious and I do not believe in those “hateful” content… I use to watch Youtube, but not no more… The bad part is once the comment is made and you removed your account, you can no longer dismiss that bad message…So there ya go. That is just my point of view. 😉 🙂 😃

With regards to music videos, there are plenty of legal music videos on youtube. Plenty. A large majority of popular artists have an official page (or one with their record studio) with their legal videos. They typically have a short commercial beforehand, which is how the record label/artist makes money.
