Is applause at the end of Mass appropriate?

Please provide information on the appropriateness of applause at the end of Mass. It usually occurs for one of the choirs that have just sung at the Mass. Seems inappropriate to me. All of the laity that participate in the Mass should be doing it for the glory of God, not for their self-agandizement. It is almost getting like some kind of off Broadway production. Please asvise.
