One of my relatives is a serious yoga practitioner, recently she advised me that she has converted to Hinduism and has opened her “third eye” and is Astro Travelling. She said a lot of eastern religions practice this including Muslims however my muslim neighbour said she has never heard of this practice in their faith.

She has asked me to participate with her in order to open my third eye which will open another part of my brain which is never used. I don’t understand what she is on about and frankly I find it concerning.

Do you practice this as part of your faith?

No, and I’ve never heard of Muslim’s practicing this Chakra thing either. Buddhist’s do, well some of them. In Yoga stuff the 3rd eye is about the ability to focus and have wisdom, intuition, and is about thinking and making decisions. There are several layers to the ‘Chakra’ in yoga, the 3rd eye just being one. I don’t subscribe to that stuff,or anything like crystal healing, etc… if I need some wisdom, intuition and focus I will pray and go to mass, confession, and speak to a priest.

These are new age practices and I am certain your priest would tell you to avoid it.

This stuff will deceive and lead a person into a pool of heresy, imo.

When these people"project" they have no idea who these entities are that they encounter. Very well could be demonic.

Yeah, this is 100% demonic. As far as you should be concerned there is no “third eye,” and if there is it isn’t anything for humans to mess with at this stage of humanity (it could figure into our “glorified” bodies when God creates the New Heaven and Earth). All this New Age Hinduism and Buddhism is completely anti-Christian and downright Satanic. Just tell your relative that you are Catholic and do not practice such things as they are against your faith. Frankly IDK why she wouldn’t know that Hindu practices and Christianity are 1000% incompatible (for instance, the swastika is a “holy” symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, and originally represented the 10,000 Hindu gods, it also gave birth to the Chinese/Japanese symbol for the number 10,000 which is pronounced “man” in Japanese, as in “manji” which is the Japanese word for swastika). Your relative sounds sneaky to me, trying to get you to participate in mysticism that is completely contrary to your faith. Remember, even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.

This is a load of nonsense brought about by an overabundance of hallucinogens and mind-altering substances used as part of “religious ceremony.”

Do not take part in this set of practices, as they are not of God.

Your neighbor needs prayers.

Astro travelling should not be practiced…it is NOT beneficial to anyone.

The “third eye” is no part of the body. It is a new-age deception.

Don’t even bother with astral travel. Your mind will be forced from your body soon enough!

This is no part of Christian practice. Good to stay away from.

Speaking as a non-denom Christian, we are taught to stay away from such things and not to mess with it.

Thank you all for your responses which have been duly noted. I’ll stay away from yoga.

That’s not a part of any form of Islam that I know of. I believe that it’s dangerous to open yourself up to stuff like that, because it could be letting jinns into your life to torment you.

Thank you Drac, my muslim neighbour essentially said the same thing. I’ve decided to decline my relatives invitation to yoga.

Astral projection is a technique for inducing out of body experiences. It requires no religious assumptions: the secular person can practice it as much as the religious. The idea that it is “New Age” is certainly not true – the experience has been around as long as we have – and calling it “demonic” is a knee-jerk reaction. It’d be like calling martial arts “New Age” or “demonic” 😛

True, non-Abrahamic religions promote the practice far more freely, but it isn’t “theirs” for that reason.

I did some research today and there are people who say they see dark moving shadows of figures moving around their bedroom and “evil monsters” once they opened their third eye and started astro travelling. Some couldn’t sleep for days it scared them so much.

My own dead relatives I can handle, strangers and unknown entities, no thanks.

Why do people want to leave their bodies, (assuming doing this at will is even possible) when biological entropy will force us to do so against our will?

In any case, “astral travel” is also known as “travelling clairvoyance” and clairvoyance of any kind is forbidden by Scripture.

Clairvoyance is an ability you can’t turn off. The Judeo-Christian scriptures forbid seeking knowledge through certain means, and if you’re committed to following whatever these texts say you can try, but when you get down to it the list isn’t exhaustive and the principles are lost to history.

As it stands, having out of body experiences can be adventerous, insightful and therapeutic. I guess the question I’d have is why wouldn’t you want to.

One of the most popular techniques for inducing out of body experiences is voluntarily entering sleep paralysis. But, drastic shift in perspective can cause auditory and visual hallucinations. Most often, folks report hearing a loud wind, or train like sound. Others, a crackling or popping. Some report seeing dark or frightening figures, though it’s unclear whether they actually are dark or fright-worthy, or if they only appear that way from the traveler’s vantage point.

Believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, Second Person of the Blessed Trinity do not need such adventures.

His teachings give us everything we need when we pick up our cross and follow Him. He is peace beyond all understanding.

I don’t anyone needs out of body experiences, and if Christians only had what they needed, things would look very differently. We all look for entertainment, adventure, insight and catharsis: these are good things, and wanting them is just part of being human. My point is not that Christians should engage in astral projection, only that there needn’t be anything wrong with doing so.

Dear “Perplexity”,

Christians do have what they need, some have more available to them. It is a process to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. He has everything for us.

To desire anything else would be a distraction!

Peace,

Dorothy
