Is Belinda Carlisle's song "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" morally offensive?

You remind me of the old song “Heavenly Sunshine”

One line in the refrain said “Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine”

Thank you, I take that as a compliment.

When it comes to such discussions and questions, I find myself thinking that sometimes do we not see the beauty of heaven and the dignity of man as seen by God himself? There is so much beauty in this world, I sometimes think God is shouting at us, “take a look around; look up, not down.” Jesus’ words about the kingdom of God being the world of laughter, joy, trust, hope, respect and love as seen in the eyes of a five year old gets all too often lost in so many of the questions and discussions we have about the state of the world and the church, and people themselves.

“Elevation Worship” means ewwwwwww

I got the title wrong, but, that line is still lovely!
 
No, that’s a hymn written decades ago. It’s in the Methodist Hymnal.

Only posted it for the lyrics.

The author was a woman who died in 1908.

Yes, Blessed Assurance is a standard.

What you posted had additional lyrics - an addition from “Elevate” that on second thought I figured was an obscure standard I’d never heard.

Death could not hold You

etc. Is not part of “Blessed Assurance”

A teacher once told me that my daughter was an absolute angel. Should I have found that offensive, in that my daughter clearly has a material body, and is thus not an amaterial spirit?

It’s my understanding that angels are supposed to be masculine.

These remind me of something I think Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) wrote. If I recall correctly, it was about the Eucharist bringing heaven to earth, or something like that. Also Jesus dwelt among us and said (Matthew 28:20) “I am with you always, until the end of the age.” So heaven is not so far away.
 
I liked her in the Go-Go’s much more. That’s all I can say.

Also, Jane Wiedlin played a great Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted’s.
 
I’d say it’s artistically and aesthetically offensive, but not morally offensive. 😜

Is it sad that I actually have a memory of watching the world premiere of that video on MTV? 😔
 
The song was recorded 30 years ago, why is this an issue now? What are people going to complain about next? Elvis “Jail house rock”, celebrating life in the big house?
 
Not only is it morally offensive, it mocks God and denies the Holy Spirit. Yea, it doth open the very gates of the Abyss, and curseth those who listen unto the seventh generation.
