No, larkin.
See the following.

The question was ‘Is birth control Christian?’
The answer, based in a very long history is NO.
Well, this is not what your Church states. My sense is that it would NEVER state it the way you have. So, why do you state it that way?

Do you sir possess any historical information or data to back up your claims?
that Catholics had abortions prior to 1973? Are you kidding???

It has been estimated in the 1890s alone that there were over 1 million abortions in the US. I will hazard a bald guess and state that some of them were Catholic. But if you would like to deny this, by all means be my guest.

And your sources are, you can’t just say in the 1890s and this and that. I need to see sources, where did you get this information?

I don’t remember. I have read so much on line about this. You don’t have to take my word for it.

Do you assert that Catholics have never sought abortions? Are you not familiar with the state of abortion services in Ireland and England and the travel between the two?

it is not christian. Look at what it is called birth control. Birth control, which manifests itself in numbers of forms (pills, condoms, etc.) are not natural and they interfere in an unnatural way to control birth or to disrupt the means by which life is conceived. It becomes evil, evil being the lack of or privation of good, because it turns the sexual act ,something beautiful and sacred that god designed, into something man and woman attempt to control to have the act with no or little chance of consequence.
Many thanks, Father.

Off topic and irrelevant to the thread topic. Start another thread. The topic is birth control.

Frankly, larkin, I can't understand your question.
What are you asking?
What do you imagine the Catholic Church says?

Contraception became "acceptable" to some (very few) Protestant
denominations in the 1930s. Prior to that, **all Christians** rejected contraception.

I'm talking about the USA. What is your geographical point of reference?

My point only was that Christians have always behind the scenes actually practiced these contraceptive methods, including Catholics. The question in the OP was if practicing it made you NOT a Christian. The Vatican document did not say this. So I pointed the fact out.

Then and now: the Church teaches that contraception is sinful.
Meaning: yes, a Christian can sin. What’s your point?

Again, the question:
Is Birth Control Christian?

Its the name of this thread.

The answer:
Birth control is NOT a Christian practice.

In theory more than in practice.
larkin, you seem to think you have many “answers.”
Yet you provide NO sources, NO documentation.

What is your point?
Do you hold a BIG disrespect for Christians or what?

A Catholic/Christian might use artificial birth control, but this is not following Christian teachings.

Using artificial birth control does not make a person non-Christian. But using artificial birth control is a grave sin.

As humans, none of us is perfect, and sin doesn’t make a person non-Christian. Otherwise, only those in Heaven could truly be Christian.

Some sins can cause a person to be excommunicated, unable to receive sacraments, etc. But a person can always repent/confess the SIN (act of contrition) and be welcomed back. 👍

I have my question solved and of course I thank you all of you for the answers, viewpoints and of course, a reason why being Pro-Life is a good choice. Thank you all.

Why are you so sensitive? I have shown no disrespect at all! I was raised in a minister’s house and love Christians and am married to a Catholic.

I will admit that I find hollow self-righteousness in adults to be incredibly annoying. So when I smell lazy thinking or pious superiority in efforts to denigrate others, I tend to speak up. But religion itself I value very highly.

Contraception is not Christian.

Let me offer this perspective:

Today, somewhere in a hospital near you, a little baby is going to be born. The life of that little baby began about nine months ago. One day, that hospital won’t be there. Neither will the city where it resides, or the state, or the country, and maybe not even the earth. But that little person will be around forever.

What the contracepting couple are telling God is this: “We know, that by this act, that You may create a person who will live forever. We know this. But WE won’t let YOU do it!” That is definitely not Christian. In fact, it’s the opposite. It’s an “in-your-face, God!” arrogant thing, telling God you don’t trust Him and that you think YOU are the “Author of Life,” rather than Him.

You make sweeping statements with NO source to back them up.
No one is asking you for any credentials.
All posters have asked is “what do you mean by that.”
What is the proof for this (or that) statement?"

Recent example:

I say: Birth control is NOT a Christian practice.

You respond: In theory more than in practice.

Then I ask "what does that MEAN?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What does it mean?
Contraception, forbidden to all Christians until the 1930s, is now 'accepted' by some.
So for 80 of the past 2000 yrs, some Christians have embraced contraception.
Therefore:  birth control is not a Christian practice.
You respond:  IN THEORY MORE THAN PRACTICE.
What are you trying to say?
Are you disagreeing?  If so, SAY so.
Otherwise - your little dismissive comments are meaningless, including the above post.
Your pastor father, your Catholic husband .. how are they relevant to the question?
Very well stated - and thank you.
Don’t believe me then. I don’t care. I am not here to change your mind.
No one is asking you for any credentials.
I was charged with disrespecting Christians. The charge is false.
It means that over 50% of Catholics (in the US) disagree with the Catholic prohibition on birth control. And many many many practice artificial birth control or other forms of sex primarily for pleasure. They also get surgical sterilization. I don’t care if you don’t believe this or won’t look the stuff up yourself. I consider it (many polls on this topic) common knowledge. The Church is opposed, but many Catholics do differently in practice.
That is what I mean. It seemed pretty clear to me.
