Is blue an appropriate color for Advent?

I know of some parishes that use blue candles instead of purple. Is this okay?
 
Not in the United States. In the United States the only appropriate colors for Advent are violet or purple (ordinarily) and rose (for the third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday). Only countries that have permission to use blue as a liturgical color (e.g., Spain) may use it.
