I was wondering if my beloved Bono is pro-life or the other “option.” I searched the internet but got no clear answer. I love U2 and I would be so disappointed if he was pro-death. Any U2 fans in the ranks? I’ve been a fan since I was about 12. I’ve been to 2 of the concerts also. The Elevation Tour was the best concert I’ve ever been to in my life.

Sorry to disappoint you. :nope:

He is not only not pro-life, U2 is on the pro-life boycott list for their funding of Planned Parenthood. Don’t be too upset. Such is the life of a rockstar. I also read that he sent an “exotic” dancer to Billy Corgan as a gift…

I think when we like certain personalities whether they are actors, or musicians it is quite deflating to find out that they are not Christian. It seems that Bono might have been Catholic at one time, right? He could be the cafeteria type.

I think what I heard is that he is “spritual” but not Christian. Kind of like that other band…Creed.

**Sorry Stratus… 😦
Lets go listen to some Ted Nugent and Toby Keith together, buddy. 🙂 **

I know you may not be into hip hop, but check out the song “Retrospective for Life” by Common featuring Lauryn Hill. This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. It’s an anti-abortion song. This is one of the songs (among many others) that boosted my respect for Common even more.

My memory may be faulty, but I don’t think he considered himself a Catholic. It might have been an “urban myth”, but I thought I read somewhere years ago that one of his parents was Catholic and the other Protestant.

At least Creed was pro-life.
Only in America we kill the unborn to make ends meet

Big U2 fan here - for years. Disappointed, however, in their very liberal stances. Still love their music though.

I think there is something attractive about U2’s music, and compared to most of their contemporaries - they seem to be more musical. However, their music is shaded a little too artsy-policical and laced with a little too much angst for me.
I easily grow weary of the attempt of artists to bend me emotionally. There is something that isn’t truely honest about it and it makes me suspicious.
However, I am quick to submit to the same emotional contorsions when listening to classical and sacred choral music. And I really like lots of rock music. But somehow, U2 has always seemed to make me uncomfortable.

Despite Bono’s pro choice stance, I still like their music and admire the work he does for disenfranchised people. Hopefully someday he will include the unborn. But he nor U2 is gonna get any flack from me for their beliefs.

What are you people talking about…U2 is “spiritual”, and not Christian?

C’mon now…his Father was Catholic…his mother was Protestant. Ever single book he has ever written (Bono), has been soaked in the teachings of Christ…their entire second albumn was on the New Testament…are you kidding me??

C’mon now Catholic Brethren…stick to facts. I’m a devout Orthodox Catholic…VERY Pro-Life, with 4 boys, happily married…while U2 is no Mother Teresa…they are pro-life in eveyrthing they do. I do agree they appear to keep a neutral tone on the subject…as they favor an approach that keeps all sides focused on Christ. Bono has worked with every US administration for the past 20 years to bring about positive change in the world. He has 5 children…his last boy’s name was JOHN-ABRAHAM…does that sound non-Christian to you??
We need to get our facts straight if we are to be affective Catholics fighting the pro-life cause.

Thank you, you took the owrds right out of my mouth.
I can understand him not “taking sides” as far as the Catholic/Protostant thing goes, he grew up in a very violent Ireland.
I cannot be mad at him for anything, he is a modern hero. He’s done more for this worl than any of us Catholics on this website.

You guys can keep Ted Nugent and Toby Kieth. I love Ted’s music, but he’s a looney guy. And as for Toby Keith, :dts:

That is Adam Clayton, U2’s bass player. The other three members including the best known Bono and guitar great The Edge proudly proclaim they are Christians. I think only The Edge claims to be Catholic. If not for Adam Clayton U2 may have become a Christian Rock band

did you know that Common is a 5 percenter? Thats someone who believes that Allah is a black person, meaning black people are gods…

I’m not sure I’d look up to U2 as role models for much more than music. On a side note, this thread is from 2005. 😛

Watch Bono’s interview at this link and you can figure out the answer to whether Bono is pro-life or pro-choice rather quickly youtube.com/watch?v=vEDcCuQcXX0&feature=related. He states in this interview how much he likes Obama and how close they are. He goes on to say that Obama will be very good for the world.

That would not be a problem for me except that Obama…having been in office for such a short time…is working feverishly to lift restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research (check out www.citizenlink.org and search Obama…it’s all there). Embryonic stem cell research commonly utilizes the horrendous act of partial birth abortion to harvest stem cells from the organs of viable babies…babies who are gestationally old enough to be born and live outside of the womb. For anyone that isn’t familiar with what partial birth abortion entails, click here citizenlink.org/FOSI/bioethics/abortion/A000001313.cfm.

My point is this: I think it’s great that Bono wants to help Africa, but how can he give the impression that he loves “life” (the lives of millions of Africans who are dying of AIDS and poverty)…yet highly favor and support a man who will allow millions of fetal human babies to be killed every year? The two don’t add up for me. He is also states in this interview that he is very against guns and America having a military prescence in the world. Obviously he is, and has always been, against war and violence–which is a great thing! But if he is so against those things, why on earth would he say that Obama, a man who is pushing to lift all restrictions on abortion and embryonic stem cell research, is good for the world? More children die from abortion every year than all the gun shootings, wars and African deaths combined! It has been dubbed “The Silent Holocaust”. Why is he embracing and promoting a man who is contributing to the deaths of millions of children?

Obama is overwhelmingly pro-choice, and Bono is very pro Obama…so the answer is clear to me. Though I have loved U2 for most of my life, I’ve lost respect for Bono. I’ve hoped for years that he would be a bold witness for Christ. At times he seems to have been…but you can’t be a bold witness for Christ and support pro-abortionist leaders at the same time…the two don’t go together. If Bono wants to act that way, that’s fine…but I wish he would stop doing it in the “name of love” and claiming Christ is behind it all. You can’t love the lives of African people, yet overlook the lives of millions of aborted babies worldwide…and say that you love life and want peace. The two don’t add up. In the words of Mother Teresa “The greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love but to use any violence to get what they want”.

I do look at Bono as one of my personal role models, for his awsome work for humanity. Do I agree with everything he believes in, of course not, same as with many other people I know.
I’m pro life, but let me ask this: what is the difference between someone who is pro choice and someone who supports what the Americans and English did during WWII (Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo, Kobe)? My opinion, none. Both are murders.
