Is breaking a dumb law a sin?

Telling it like it is? 🤣 More like telling it like you would like it to be.
You know the reason we have most laws is because some people are not capable of reasonable actions.
We have speed limits because for every nine people who are willing to drive at 70 miles per hour, there is some dufus that believes he or she should be able to drive at 100 miles per hour. šŸ¤”
Golf carts are called golf carts for a reason. They belong on a golf course. On a golf cart path. Not on a street or highway.😬

Fortunately, you’re not in charge. Golf carts on the streets are legal in many cities in the USA.

Bragging that you violate the laws, when we are commanded to obey just laws, is unseemly at best.

I ride my golf cart on the street all the time. I even pass cops plenty of times and they just wave and never say a thing. I go with ride wherever you want. I used to live in the country and we used to ride 4-wheelers all over the place. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Take it back to the golf course. It was not made for joy riding on city streets.

The people make the laws. They can change the laws.
If you don’t like a law, change it.

A law does not need to be repealed if everyone follows it. It is when a law is hardly ever followed that changes need to be made and law removed.

I’m good and I will continue to ride on the streets in my subdivision. We have tons of people with golf carts. Our entire family enjoys it. LOL - can’t believe there’s a debate going on about this. Mind blown.

When I was a kid, I tried the ā€œeverybody ELSE does itā€ reasoning, mom and dad answered with talk of bridges and jumping.

Sounds as if your community does not have laws on the books prohibiting such. Where there IS a law, we are bound as Christians to obey just laws.

You’re at a red light, in the early hours of the morning. You’re the only car on the road. You can clearly see that there aren’t any cars approaching from either direction. Do you wait for it to turn green?
Yes. This is an opportunity to practice obedience and patience. An opportunity to say some hail Mary prayers for the conversion of sinners and peace in this world. For the souls in purgatory. It’s an opportunity to exercise your muscles of faith. To apply some self control. This is how saints are made.

The scripture that comes to mind is when we come before the Lord, our works will be tested through fire. This is how we have works of gold and not of straw.

1 Corinthians 3: 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

Everyday we have opportunities. If only we could recognize them and use them to bring blessing. That’s wisdom.

Pennsylvania laws that are dumb:
It it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.

You may not catch a fish with your hands.

Any motorist driving along a country road at night must stop every mile and send up a rocket signal, wait 10 minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, and continue.

You may not catch a fish by any body part except the mouth.

A special cleaning ordinance bans housewives from hiding dirt and dust under a rug in a dwelling.

Dynamite is not to be used to catch fish.

You may not sing in the bathtub.

Though you do not need a fishing license to fish on your own land, but a hunting license is required to hunt on your own land.

Fireworks stores may not sell fireworks to Pennsylvania residents.

A person is not eligible to become Governor if he/she has participated in a duel.

Any motorist who sights a team of horses coming toward him must pull well off the road, cover his car with a blanket or canvas that blends with the countryside, and let the horses pass.

Interesting list. What does it have to do with the question, which was about laws that had no purpose other than to make certain people criminals? Leftovers they may be, but were not enacted for the sole purpose of making good people criminals.

I just thought they were humorous.
A real world law that has caused problems now and then is if a Pennsylvania driver has a legal handgun and Concealed Carry permit, but during the workday has to drive into New Jersey for their work, they can be prosecuted and sentenced up to two years in prison. It’s happened at least twice I’m aware of. Fortunately, the former governor of New Jersey pardoned them.

I do like to look at these old law lists, even if some of them are out of date by now (legislatures sometimes hurry up to repeal such laws when they show up on lists like this).

And there is no doubt that many laws have unintended consequences that might make good people into criminals, but that is, as far as I have been able to determine, not the original or sole purpose of any of them, at least in the US.

Fortunately you are not in charge either. So people should drive them on the street where they are legal and not where they aren’t. Isn’t that what people have been saying here all along? Follow the laws or work to change them.
