Is breaking Lenten fast (giving something up) at any time a mortal sin?

If you mean the things you personally/voluntarily decide to “give up” for Lent-- no.

If you mean the required fast days of Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, then maybe. It depends upon circumstances. It would be something to discuss with your priest if there were an issue.

I don’t like how people give things up but than break it whenever they feel like it or if they think it’s “too hard.” For the first week of lent, a girl I know said she was eating meat so when I asked her if she gave up meat for the week she said “I did it for the first 3 days (I think she said 3 days)but than I was dying I couldn’t do it”. I just think that’s wrong to give something up and than break it whenevr you feel like. The whole point is to sacrifice. But, if someone doesn’t want to give something up that’s fine , but I don’t think it’s right to give it up than knowingly break it on your own convenience.

I’m also giving up something else, and I only wanted to do one of them, and I’m also kind of trying to replace it by acting better.
