Is calling my father an "idiot" a serious sin?

Hi,

Yesterday my father and I were in a kind of a heated discussion and I called him an idiot a couple of times, how sinful is this, I am struggling with it and any help would be great.

The fact that you said it out of emotion does not nullify your lack of respect. This is serious.
Apologize to him and go to Confession.
