Cannon Law says that the Eucharistic Host must be made of wheat and not rice. Is it possible that we could get to heaven and Jesus would say, “You could have used rice wafers. That would have been valid.” ? Or is Cannon Law guaranteed by the Holy Spirit to be infallible? My protestant friend wants to know.

Dear d,

The Church uses wheat for the Eucharist because Jesus did. It would not presume to use rice or any other grain since Jesus didn’t. The Sacraments were initiated by Jesus. Jesus only expects us to obey Him.
