I understand how cosmetic surgery is not approved because its defiles the body God gave you. But I have some acne all around my face, and my dermatologist might start me on Acutane which altars your DNA of oil production. **Is this approved? **

Also, can you pray for me and my face…its kind of embarrassing. 😊

Thanks!!

never heard of the process, but if no innocent human beings, or nascent human beings, are killed in the process and sacrificed for the end to which the procedure is being used, there is no moral issue.

I would say it’s not prohibited. You are being treated for a condition. I would say that cosmetic surgery for scars would also not be prohibited. It’s the use and abuse of plastic surgery that derives from vanity that is the problem. A better nose. A more or less promiment chin, high cheekbones, etc, etc. Not treatments for a condition but, rather, vanity which has its own origins.

Please discuss with your doctor all the possible side effects for accutane – and there are some.

You are mistaken regarding cosmetic surgeries. Medical procedures of this nature are morally neutral. The type of surgery and reason for it could make the surgery moral or immoral. For example, breast implants for a breast cancer patient and breast implants for posing in Playboy are morally different.

Typically surgeries and treatments to correct a defect or cure a disease are fine.

Your particular treatment is fine.

Yes, it’s true to a certain extent. The Church frowns upon cosmetic surgery when pursued for vain reasons – not medically necessary plastic surgery. The reason is that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirt and not be messed with unnecessarily. However, if you need a nose job because breathing is extremely difficult, a nose job is the solution to a legit medical condition.

It doesn’t change your DNA. It stops the glands producing so much oil and helps those who have severe acne.

It depends on the reason. If you’re in a serious car accident and your face is deformed, its okay to get cosmetic surgery. But most cosmetic surgery is borne out of vanity, therefore its a sin (vanity is one of the deadly sins).

Actually, the dermatologist told me it altars my DNA to stop so much oil from producing.

It altars the transcription of your DNA, doesn’t altar your DNA template.

You’re good to go.

I would not go for that.
Never heard that the cosmetic surgery was subject of Church Talk.
Time is a cosmetic surgery that leads a beautiful girls into a decrepit shadow of it was. I do not think that the Temple of the Holy spirit here does not apply.
Anyhow, I do not worry much: with or without, we all end up in 4 boards, hands crossed above the chest and looking at the ceiling…
So, I would say they are patches to the Time or retardants of the invevitable…
Cheaper is Photoshop…
What would the Church say to that?

no most cosmetic surgery is not born out of vanity
no cosmetic surgery is a sin, even if improving appearance is part of the reason for it.
before making these broad statements please find a church document source for such claims
