Is child birth a reason for a woman to go to Confession?

A friend of mine insists she was told, in her Catholic grammar school, that a Catholic woman who gives birth must go to confession and confess that fact. I, too, attended Catholic schools and never heard such a thing. Is there such a requirement for confession following childbirth?

Hi,

Of course not! In the Old Law the woman had to be purified after child birth. But even for the Jews, childbirth was not considered a sin. Certainly, for Christians it is part of God’s design and is a sacred thing–not a sinful one.
