Is Christmas Eve a Holy day?

Are both Christmas Eve and Day both Holy Days of Obligation? If you go to only one is it the same as going to both?
 
Dear Julie,

Only Christmas day is a holy day of obligation. To satisfy this obligation one may attend Mass on Christmas day itself or at a vigil Mass of Christmas on Christmas Eve.
