is Christmas over at your church?

My neighbor has already put the Christmas tree in the trash today. I thought this was too quick.

I’d like to celebrate it and I am glad that my parish still celebrates Christmas. In fact, today, we had Christmas party - folks gathered and sang Christmas songs. Yesterday, we enjoyed the season but we did not forget those who have family members recently passing away. We had a dinner and prayed for the souls.

We are having more activities at our parish for about 2 more weeks.
How about your church?

I don’t think the Christmas season is over until the Epiphany, (Jan. 6th) Our church continues to celebrate the Christmas season until then.

Traditionally today (Dec. 27th) is the third day of Christmas (my true love gave me 3 French Hens)

All the gifts and celebrating should end on Twelfth Night (12 drummers drumming) Jan 5-6

We don’t take the tree, lights and decorations down until after Jan. 6, much to the chagrin of our neighbors.
 
I think the traditional Christmas season runs till Feb 2, the presentation of the Lord, Candlemas day. That is from the OT law that a mother of a first born was to present her son 40 days after the birth to be redeemed (by 2 doves or a lamb). Because the first born belongs to God (see the passover story where the first born of Israel were passed over rather than taken)

In the church we try to celebrate longer than prepare

Advent less or equal 4 weeks
Christmas 40 days
Lent 46 days
Easter 50 days
 
We follow the liturgical cycle. Christmas now ends liturgically with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
 
The day after Christmas I’m done, I want the lights out, the tree gone, my house back, and then about seven hours to balance my accounts. Maybe I’m a scrooge but you’re inundated with Christmas from Thanksgiving, by the time it actually arrives it’s sort of anti-climactic (as far as the commercialism goes).

Anyway the last thing I want to do after Christmas is sing Christmas carols…
 
we had our parish Christmas party last night, but attendance was down because Texas was on TV in a bowl game (which we could not know when the party was scheduled). we are still cleaning up, and have had more food and gift donations, which will go out to the colonias. the giving has not stopped at any rate. Yes we follow the liturgical year and Christmas colors, decorations, and carols will be in evidence until after Epiphany.

That’s so sad…

We didn’t put up Christmas decor until Christmas Eve, so it’s staying up til Epiphany!

Same here, except the few “Santa” things are put away. No tree this year due to young, active, naughty cats, but the religious decorations and wreath will stay up until Epiphany. Our parish church keeps the decorations up through the Baptism of Our Lord.
 
Christmas is not over by any means–at my church or my house. Of course, Christmas didn’t start 3 minutes after midnight on Oct 31 either…
