Is Christmas the pagan celebration of Saturnalia?

Christmas is on 12/25 of every year and is the same general day as an old Roman Pagan holiday known as Saturnalia. It was a celebration of the Winter Solstice. Was that date picked to celebrate the birth of Christ to make it easier to convert Romans and of so isn’t Christmas then really a pagan holiday?
