Is a civil marriage that was done outdoors between a catholic and a Methodist recognized by the catholic church? Can these two people lived as a married couple prior to renewing vows in a catholic church, or do they have to live apart?

Hi,

The Catholic Church does not recognize the civil marriages of Catholics. For yor husband to be able to receive Holy Communion, he must go to Confession and be celibate until he is in a marriage that his Church recognizes a valid. This all presupposes that neither of you has been married to someone else and divorced in the past.
