I was curious about how to best respond to people clapping at the end of Mass for the choir…don’t get me wrong, I greatly appreciate all their hard work and dedication towards delivering such beautiful songs and I don’t want to come across unappreciative of them, but it doesn’t feel right to join in with the applause after the end of Mass. I just was wondering if someone could help direct me towards the correct position of the Church. I feel because I’m a new convert to Catholicism that if the majority of the members of the Church are ok with clapping…then the problem must be with my interpretation and hopefully someone can help offer direction for me because I don’t mean to appear ungrateful or rude not clapping.
One more thing that’s been on my mind….is it considered ok to wear baseball caps and to wear a hooded sweatshirt over your head during Mass? I have gotten used to the jeans and sweatpants…but removing a hat in a formal setting used to be my understanding of showing respect…such as when we stand and sign the national anthem at baseball games for example.
I was raised Protestant and hate to think I’m being judgmental and finding errors in others worries me that I’m criticizing others and I certainly don’t want to be a trouble maker and perhaps I should be praying more for a better attitude towards loving others. I’m certainly not perfect and make mistakes all the time too. but I know if I was unaware of a mistake, I would hope someone in the Church would tell me and not allow me to continue unaware of my error…I think maybe I’m just "too overly excited’ about the Church and hold it with such reverence in my heart and love the privilege of coming to Mass each week and accepting the Holy Eucharist that it just baffles me to think others wouldn’t hold attending Mass with such love for tradition—thanks!
