Is confession different at TLM?

I have never been given a penance in Latin but a Unus Pater Noster wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. 🙂

That would have been a lot easier than the Spanish penance I had to figure out.
I used to go to a Polish speaking TLM community with my grandmother. I always managed to get my weekly confessions in at the English parish a few blocks away. 🙂

I recently made a TLM parish my home parish. One of the things I love are confessions. In the TLM, confessions are much more uniform than in NO parishes (at least in my diocese). There’s the standard formula - priest’s prayer (Latin), “Bless me Father…”, sins, number of occurrences of sins, advise, penance assignment, absolution (Latin.)

Just make sure you don’t sit down and start rambling away, as I tend to do. Usually Father has prayers he says semi-silently to himself before hearing each confession. It’s not nearly as much of a rushed process as the NO parishes, and in my Church, confessions are heard all the way up to the Gospel reading.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a “NO parish”?

Peace and all Good!

NO stands for Novus Ordo- so NO Parish refers to a Parish where the Sacraments are Celebrated according to the Novus Ordo Missae of 1970, which is the Mass is the Vernacular as occurs in most Parishes, though there is also a Latin form of this Mass as distinct from the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM), sometimes referred to as the Vetus Ordo (VO) or Old Rite

Hope this helps.

I prefer using the terms Ordinary Form for the Mass celebrated according to the 2002 Third Typical Edition of the Roman Missal and Extraordinary Form for the Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Missal of John XXIII. Those are the tems used by Pope Benedict in his motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum"

Some people to refer to the Mass in Ordinary Form as the “Novus Ordo” or “NO” for short.

Brother has given a good response on why we need to use the correct term of “Mass in Ordinary Form” or OF instead of Novus Ordo (for one, the Mass in OF that is said today isn’t really the “Novus Ordo” anyway, the other reason being that it’s often used in a derogatory way).

Based on the way Sonny89 has responded to other posts, I don’t think he meant to be derogatory at all by using the term Novus Ordo, as many are truly unaware of how it is used to denigrate the Mass by certain groups and people and others aren’t aware of the correct terms for the Mass. Let us all remember that it is still the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, whichever form is preferred.

You’re right, I think these are better terms, but I didn’t think to mention that at the time of my response (it was very late when posting from my country of residence & I was caffeine deprived :D) & I used Novus Ordo & Vetus Ordo to answer the poster’s query about the meaning of “NO Parish”. Thanks for the post & clarification :).

God Bless
