Does missing Sunday Mass (unless for an exceptional reason) require one’s going to confession prior to receiving Communion the next time at Mass. I assume this is definitely a mortal sin and one must go to confession. Am in a debate w a friend who says a priest told him a perfect act of contrition is all that is required.

Hi,

The problem with making a perfect act of contrition is that we can’t know if it was perfect or not. So it’s off to Confession for those who deliberately miss Sunday Mass when they could have been there.
