Is Confession required before Communion?

Good Evening…
I have a question about communion. Is it necessary to visit a Confessional before taking communion or is a prayer asking forgiveness enough?

Hi,

Catholics must be free of mortal sin in order to receive the Eucharist. If Catholics have a mortal sin on their sou, they must go to Confession first. Only Catholics may receive the Eucharist in the Catholic Church. Most non-Catholics don’t know what a mortal sin is, anyway.
