I really have no idea and I’m curious to know. I know that his mother is a saint (Saint Helena) but I can’t tell. I’ve seen some people say he’s a saint and others not.

I mean… He did do many heinous things during his life but apparently converted to Christianity on his deathbed and legalized Christianity in Rome.

Opinions?

(Sorry if this thread might seem out of place. Don’t know where else to put it 😊)

I don’t think so officially but because he was baptized on his deathbed and therefore was wiped clean of sin, unofficially, probably.

Keep in mind that back in the day Confession was a very brutal process and much harder to go through. Baptism was always a free pass to wipe away sin. Therefore, I think the reason Constantine waited until his deathbed was to take advantage of the one time wipe the slate clean without any need for Confession involved with baptism.

I think he is regarded as a saint in the Orthodox churches, but not the Catholic. I don’t know about the Eastern Catholics.

He is a Saint in the Eastern Churches both Orthodox and Catholic. He is recognized a Saint by the Latin Church but not given much recognition. It could be politically motivated because he did move the capital of the empire from Rome to Constantinople (or New Rome) so the Roman Church was less fond of him than the Church in Constantinople (Byzantine).

Saying he has done many heinous things in his life does not disqualify him as a saint. Just think about Saint Paul.
