If your cycles are pretty regular, then I doubt you’ll have much trouble with NFP. Usually regular cycles mean that you’re ovulating around the same time each cycle, and it should be fairly easy to pick out a pattern after a couple of cycles. You can’t get pregnant at any time of your cycle, so once you learn how to identify your body’s symptoms, you’ll be able to find your non fertile time. Don’t loose hope! NFP is just as reliable as any form of contraception out there. We’re not using NFP, we’re totally abstaining even though my periods are regular. I have no confidence to risk it as I become pregnant very easily. I’m terrified that I would become pregnant at any time of my cycle. We have not had intercourse since November because of this. It would mean totally abstaining for possibly the next 10 years![]()
I suggest that you start doing some of your own research. Look at the different types of NFP and see if you can get an idea for which type you’d like to learn. I use the sympto-thermal method, and I love it. But not every method works for everyone, so don’t feel discouraged if you learn a method and then find out that it’s not working well for you. Then, get yourself in a class and start learning. STM has more conservative and less conservative rules that you can use to determine fertility, depending on how necessary it is to avoid a pregnancy.
