I think it might be. Wouldn’t we live in a better world if bible films, tv series’, music, and audiobibles were COPYLEFT? If St. Michael the Archangel is patron of Police, I think that would be last to enforce on his list. One may never know, but I can’t see how drowning the word of God in copyright is justifiable when we are told to spread it. That includes stories.

You mean should people be free to redistribute as they see fit and anyone who uses a portion of a religious story in their book / movie should be forced to copyleft their derivative work?

There is no copyright on the bible. There might be copyright on translations of the bible. But older ones like dohay Reims (can’t spell it) have no copyright. You can download that translation for free.

If a person makes a religious movie they have a right to not have that ripped off. A religious movie is no different from any other. The makers have a right to make profit from it. Otherwise few would make them and that would be worse 😛

At a church mission, the guest speaker mentioned the irony of televangelists saying “And if you enjoyed this message you can buy it but if you copy it, I’ll have you thrown in jail. But remember God loves you.” Hence he encouraged people to copy his CDs and share as much as they wanted.

However asSchrodinger mentioned, the makers have to make a living on their specific works.

People wbo want to make their work freely available can do so with a Creative Commons license. But there’s no requirement that because someone works for the Church or works on religious topics they lose all rights to their intellectual property.

Even the Evangelist St. Paul says that those
who preach the gospel make their living by
the gospel. 1 Cor 9:9 “do not muzzle the ox
while treading grain…” TV evangelist have to
pay for their time on the air, plus the expensive
clothes they have to wear, everything runs
on money, and on TOP of that they have to
pray and fast to be spiritually fit, they have
a heavy load to bear, we should be GLAD for
them and GIVE according to our means!!

I can understand the need to buy air time and facilities to handle large crowds and other things like that, but most of these guys drive Bentleys and have 10K sq ft mansions on the water.

Its one thing to try and spread deception but to try to rake in millions off ‘spreading the word of Christ’ and have greed in mind, is probably as blasphemous as it gets!

Imo, they are just as bad as all the big retailers taking advantage of Christmas just so they can increase revenue.

This is a Leftist idea. Everything, as much as possible, should be free. Any worker is deserving of just wages/compensation.
