My parish has a crucifix in the sanctuary that does not have the inscription INRI. I had never noticed it until a priest mentioned it during a homily. The crucifix I have a home has the inscription, as does the one on my rosary. I have never seen a crucifix without INRI (or ICXC in the Eastern Churches). Is this crucifix with no inscription suitable for a church sanctuary?

I believe that the rubrics call for a cross with Christ on it. They don’t have any mention of the inscription at all, so I guess it would be al right.

Ok, thank you for clarifying. Yes, it is a crucifix, He is on it. I guess it’s just odd that there’s no inscription because all the Gospels make a point that the inscription was on the cross, especially John’s Gospel where the Jewish leaders wanted Pilate to change the inscription but Pilate refused.

That has always been a problem for me with the various Protestant sects. They never have Christ on the Cross and genuinely seem offended that Catholics do. Sad to say, many Catholic Churches these days also seem to have taken a dislike to crucifixes.
