I think this word is often misunderstood or misused. I made the mistake of using this word and was immediately attacked and bullied. Perhaps I should have been more careful and I agree its important to make distinctions because “crying it out” can be abuse under certain circumstances. So its important that people know the difference.
I stated that I was fine with letting a baby cry it out. I did not mean that I would just ignore my baby crying for endless hours and just shut the door, but more of a controlled crying technique. Where I would come back in the room check on them, etc.
Anyhow I am being made to feel like I am some child abuser and a terrible mother by a friend who adheres to attachment parenting. I am not comfortable with my child dictating our schedule and what she needs. If my child knows what is best for her and what her needs are than why does she need a parent at all?
I’d like everyone’s thoughts on this matter.
