Is cutting a grave sin?

I’ve started to wonder if I should cover them when I go to church because they could possibly scandalize someone.
If you were in my parish and I was aware of someone scandalizing you for it, I would rebuke them aggressively.

A bit off topic, but:
A few decades ago, there was (might still be) a self-proclaimed vampire who called herself “Katrina Coffin”. Her friends would cut themselves so she could suck out the blood.

Revolting taste!

Of course it’s intentional. But that’s completely irrelevant in this context. It’s an expression of serious mental illness. A person who cuts can be no more culpable than a person with depression who can’t get out of bed, or a person with schizophrenia who acts on the voices he hears.
Amen and thank you.

Met a man who was neat and clean and troubled. When he lifted his shirt his whole body was crisscrossed with scars. Just released from hospital and seeking the fare to go back . Compassion always .

Like many things the Catholic “it depends” applies. Many people who cut themselves are abuse survivors, so there is the possibility of emotional issues that would mitigate the severity or gravity of this sin. The person behind any abuse is far more culpable.
👍

I don’t have a mental illness but I keep turning back to that. I personally don’t understand why it’s grave matter and I sure would like to not go to hell for this
