Depends. Is it for the last seat out on the refugee plane or the ticket line for the movies?

OOh boy do I know a lot of 3rd graders in grave peril XD

Not necessarily, I think it shows a disrespect for others, though, so the danger might be n the undelying reason and not the act itself

Let’s go switching lines at the cafeteria and meeting your friends in that line. (the people behind them came before you did).

Please share both the refugee plane and the movie ticket line as well.

I use to attend this Church for Confession and the room was set up across the hall from the Chapel. So people would go in the Chapel and pray and wait their turn. Well, there was this little ole lady who would wait outside of the Chapel near the Church door and when the Confessional door would open she’d make a bee-line in there and SKIP EVERYONE waiting in the Chapel.

How’s that for irony. I wonder if she ever confessed that.

cutting in line CAN be a grave matter… if it is a symptom of
anger, and lack of concern for others
Pride (thinking you are better)
covetousness/envy (wanting what someone else has)

sure.
if its just thoughtlessness, its a bad habit, and should be avoided, but probably not grave…

its rarely the action itself, but the “why” behind teh action that makes a grave matter so serious

I think the refugee plane and movie tickets comment was trying to show the ridiculous and the sublime.

Cutting in line is rude. It breaks the golden rule of “do unto others”. I think in most cases, it’s just a matter of not respecting other people and putting your own needs ahead of them. It’s a minor inconveniece for the other person, so not so big a deal.

But it makes me wonder why someone thinks it’s ok for them to do it. If it’s a regular habit, it may indicate that you think you’re special and don’t have to follow rules. As the ex-wife of that type of person, it would be a very big red flag to me.

I would say it depends on what you’re cutting in line for. If you’re in a third world country where they are distributing food for an emergency situation and you cut in line when you don’t really need the food as much as someone else does then yes, that would likely be grave matter. Otherwise, I don’t really know. I’d discuss the issue with your priest in confession if in doubt. 🙂
